Holiday bonus 1 – The Clackening

String of beads: meet kitties

I’m gonna apologise now for the quality of the pictures. More recent ones are way better, but going a few years back? Not so much.

When Cuddles and I first moved in together, we just had Squeak for our very first Christmas, no other pets. Cuddles wanted a big ol’ proper tree, so we got one, and we decorated it (by which I mean we both decorated it, then Cuddles redid my decoration so it fit her aesthetic).

Squeak wasn’t happy about any of this. The tree shared her corner and she was extra grumpy.

Until she found the strings of pink beads that were part of the tree decoration.

We wound up having to remove them because the tree kept randomly falling over, definitely all by itself and not at all because Squeak was attacking the beads. Nope.

After the tree was gone, I had the idea to take the beads, and tie them to one of the slats in the stair banister so they dangled down.

And so came The Clackening. Nonstop clack…clack…clack…clack as Squeak batted the beads hack and forth, hitting them against the stairs each time. This went on nonstop for days, until she got bored.

But we left them up, and a while later we got Monster. She decided that she also liked the beads. But she didn’t like them when they were hanging from the stairs.

So she, somehow, managed to undo the knot I’d tied and drop them to the floor.

Now, the floor was polished hardwood. So basically what Monster had figured out was that she could pounce around on the beads and do lil slides along the floor. Which she loved.

Unfortunately that meant the beads always wound up somewhere that Cuddles or I would then try to put a foot down on.

The number of “Woah, shit!” moments we had from those beads…

Anyway that’s bonus number 1. Happy and Blessed Holidays all, whatever you do or don’t celebrate 💜

I’m gonna leave you here with a picture of the tree topper that first year. It was one of the presents I got Cuddles – a plushie of the Don’t Starve Together spiders that roared. We put it on top of the tree and so, obviously, we then named it Star.

Happy holidays folks, I hope 2023 comes in looking better for us all than 2022!

There will be another bonus episode on New Year’s Eve, as well as the regular ones. So I shall see you soon!
